Error: Windows files are installed on host...due to swap on the host drive.
Error:
Windows files are installed on host drive <x>. Uncompressing drive <y> will cause the drive letter for drive <x> to change. Because Windows refers to drive <x> to find its files, you cannot uncompress drive <y>.
Cause:
This error occurs when uncompressing a DriveSpace compressed drive. The Windows 95 swap file is located on the host drive. When a drive is uncompressed, the host drive is removed. Windows cannot remove a drive containing the swap file.
Solution:
Move the swap file from the host drive to the compressed drive. Uncompress the drive and reset the virtual memory settings.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select the 'Settings' menu and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
'System' icon in 'Control Panel' window
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'Performance' tab.
'Performance' tab in 'System Properties' dialog box
5) Click 'Virtual Memory...'. (The 'Virtual Memory' dialog box appears.)
6) Select the 'Let me specify my own virtual memory settings' radio button.
7) Select the compressed drive.
CAUTION 1: DO NOT SELECT the HOST drive.
CAUTION 2: Leave the 'Minimum' and 'Maximum drop-down list box entries as they are.
8) Click 'OK'.
9) Click 'Close'.
10) Proceed with the process of uncompressing the compressed drive.
11) Repeat steps 1) through 5) when uncompression is completed.
12) Select the 'Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings (recommended)' radio button. (This option lets Windows 95 dynamically allocate disk space to serve as virtual memory as required.)
13) Click 'OK'.
14) Click 'Close'.
